How to build 6V DC Power Adaptor

Compact DC power adaptor that delivers fairly regulated voltage that too with standard voltage is always preferable for electronics project builders as well as users. Even if the voltage is adjustable for the desired range means it is a welcome feature. Such a type of power adaptor is described here for easy assembling.

The power adaptor circuit design explained here delivers a regulated DC voltage of up to 6Volts. Besides being regulated, it is established output for practical purposes. Moreover, the circuit design facilitates adjusting the output voltage from 2 to 6V DC. Hence it is an advantageous circuit design to get any voltage between 2 to 6. The specialty of the circuit is it employs just two transistors and a dual-purpose LED.

Low voltage 6V AC is rectified using full-wave rectifier diodes and smoothed with a C1 electrolytic capacitor. Smoothed DC voltage is fed to the Q1 collector and regulated output is taken out from the emitter. Q1 is regulated using Q2 biasing through Red LED and VR variable resistor. The LED acts as DC on the indicator as well as controls the current flow of Q2 to function as a voltage regulator.  By varying VR 2to 6 V DC output can be obtained through the emitter of Q1. 

Assembling

The circuit can be assembled with the ready-made PCB designed exclusively for this circuit shown below. It is compact and neat assembling is achieved by using this board. A suitable metal enclosure is necessary for compact placement of the assembled board and to reduce hum pick up and to prevent external disturbances. The gadget is very small and compact to look and to use. All components are easily available at a very low cost. They may be procured locally.
